Cleaning Ivory, and Brasso/Silvo use
Hi all
I was fortunate enough to recently acquire some genuine ivory scaled razors
The ivory is in very good condition apart from a few rust marks (where the razor was lying on a rusty pin, and inside where the blade was touching)
Can anyone advise me of a simple and safe way to remove the rust marks? I've googled cleaning ivory and got alcohol and warm water lightly rubbing or a vinyl eraser.
Also in terms of polishing the blade has anyone used brasso or silvo?
Thanks in advance
Nick

Nick, you got some good advice on cleaning the ivory. If you need to take desperate measures, make a paste with water and baking soda. It's a mild abrasive that's used for cleaning teeth, so it should be ok on tusks
Brasso and Silvo are liquids and not very useful when dealing with straights. They're effective in removing light patina, but Maas, Flitz, Simichrome and CLR Metal Clear can do that and remove more serious stuff, without the noxious fumes.

Thanked: 346I use a bristle pipe cleaner (plastic bristle, not metal) and a thin oil to clean my ivory scales.
