Thread: Having trouble reaching the inside.

So I am honing a blade that had some bad hone wear and a warp. The hone wear was really heavy on the toe like a 10th of an inch difference in the toe from the rest of the edge. I went to straighten out the edge by bread knifing it and got it straight. Then after that I started to hone it and it has a decent warp in it and I am having a lot of trouble getting the inside curve. I don't really know what to do about this but giving up is not an option. This is also not a personal razor and is for someone else.

In this case a picture would be really helpful.

When the toe and the heel are on the stone you have daylight under the middle. What happens when the heel is off the hone ? :<0)

I'd say a rolling x should help mightily.

Yes that is right 10pups, but the toe is bent more out than the heel so no matter what the toe is always on the hone and thus develops almost a smile at the toe. When the heel is off the hone then whatever part that is touching the edge of the hone is making contact and the toe too but thats about it. The outside curve I have an even bevel because of the rolling x but that doesn't help the other wide. I have tried rolling x, varying pressure, heel forward 45, heel forward 70, heel forward swooping to toe forward and nothing seems to work.

Im honing it for a newer member and didn't know what brand it was. Well its one of those....undesirables. I told him to pick up a better blade, and he since has but he still wants this one to shave because it was his first razor. It can get an edge but its just the geometry issues.

I can get it to shave but it will be ugly, I was wondering if there would be a way to do it with out it being so ugly. I have put up to three layers of tape. I have tried putting extra pieces of tape on the parts that lift off the hone. I don't really know what else to do.

Are you talking about a frown maybe? I am a bit confused.

No, I am talking about if you are looking down on the the edge from above it is like a "C". A warped edge. Obviously a "c" is a bit of an overstatement but yeah. No frown. its a warped edge. I tried taking some pictures but this site hates me when I upload and there wasn't much to see anyways.

Oh. Ok. I would suggest a magic marker, a rolling x, and/or a smaller hone or the side of a regular hone. Best I can do but I'm ready for bed.
