Thread: 3K Bevel Set, for Novice Honers?

When I started out all I had was the Norton 4/8 and I set many a bevel with that 4K and it worked fine. Looking back now that I have more hones and I have a Norton 1K I don't think I would start at the 4K again for true bevel setting. It took a lot of time on the 4K and I don't think I saw any advantages over the 1K at least on the razors I worked on.

Thanked: 177Imo a bevel is a bevel. 1k 4k, 8k etc. We could set em on a cnat too. As was said reasonable use of a 1k stone shouldnt create issues.

Thanked: 3215Actually, I believe much of the problem with new hard custom razors chipping, is from aggressive belts with too much pressure.
Once these razors are honed a few times and enough steel is removed, the chipping stops.
