Thread: Skipping the mikawa nagura progression.

Had a great shave with it today. Edge very sharp and smooth at the same time. I love this honzan/tomonagura combination.

Very nice to hear about great results with such minimalistic set up.
Have you tried the progression on other razors? Does it work as well?

Not yet. I will next weekend.

Today I did the same with a Kukri razor that needed nearly 300 roundtrips and a J. Voos D. Sohn razor that needed over 200 roundtrips. Both passing the HHT

I use a similar method all the time, works great for me too. I've found that a few edge trailing strokes right at the end sometimes (better with certain stones or razors) adds a nice little bit to the keenness without causing harshness as well.

Agreed. I used to think that it was 'cheating' to do edge trailing strokes but a while back I decided that life's too short to cling onto old mindsets. Experiment and do whatever works!
