It's definitely NOT light!! About like shipping a brick (sans milk) @ Randy

Solingen made it back today, by the way.. I'll try it out tonight. With it back, I've got one I can use again if I goober something up.

I admit, I've been lazy the last couple days and haven't touched the other Wapi...

Check with someone in Europe to look at your hone.
LX_Emergency comes to mind. It would be faster.

Lacking that then I would volunteer also.

Mailing to LX would have to go to the States through military mail, then back to Europe. It's actually faster and a lot cheaper to keep it in the US postal system.

Thanks for the thought, though - if I was using local mail it probably *would* be a lot faster...

    Default Chasing sharpness?

If you're not getting the same results along the full length of a razor, something's wrong with the steel. It sounds like it wasn't tempered correctly. This is not a stone problem, it's a razor problem. Honing is a progressive process. You start with coarser stones and move to finer and finer stones and then strop. If you do that and you're not getting predictable results, there is another variable and I'm betting it's the steel and/or it's heat treating.

It is very doubtful that it is either the steel or heat treatment. Those are/were both very uniform in the factories.

They don't have any sandpaper at the PX - I've looked. I radius the edges using the flattening stone every time I lap my hones (including the coticule).

I wish I had one of the USB scopes... I'd take pics. When I look at my edges , I tilt the blade so that the light catches the bevel... then just a tiny bit more so the light catches the very edge. I can see the blunting of the coticule edge in comparison with the 8k when I do that.

If it was just a softening of the feel of the edge, I could deal with it. But going from an edge that will shave arm hair with no pressure to one that won't shave arm hair at all isn't acceptable.
I found my USB scope on eBay. My avatar is a 200X shot from a blade.
