Default Honing with an uneven spine

I'm working on a couple of eBay specials and have noticed that the spine on one of them looks like it's been sanded down towards the toe end of the razor for about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch. When honing, the spine lays flat except for the thinner end, so the toe of the razor's edge won't quite contact the hone.

Without honing an incredible amount of the full spine away to match the thinner section at the toe, is there a way to sharpen the full length of the blade?

I should probably mention that this is a 5/8 round edge.

    Thanks.

Use a sharply angled X pattern stroke. Be sure to bring the razor down so far that only 1/2" is left on the hone. See my avatar for the basic X pattern stroke . Now just make the angle sharper.

    I'll give it a try.

    Thanks, Randy.
