Thanked: 108corrosion
I'm having a disappointing experience with what looked like a nice old Boker in good shape – some dark spots, a bit of pitting, but little to no spine wear; in fact I thought it might be a badly stored NOS that had been half-cleaned up.
But those tiny dark spots are in fact corrosion. As each "hones into view," so to speak, it crumbles at the edge into microchips, and I can see the next patch of swiss cheese coming behind it. Honing past corrosion on an ebay beater is usually no big deal, but fully half of this 5/8 blade is flat and paper thin, like a Filly. So it seems I'm not "honing past" the corrosion, I'm just honing into the next patch. And looking at the side of the blade there are these tiny dark squiggles flecked here and there all the way up the thin part, very minor, if you sized it up with the naked eye you'd say that razor's in fine shape. But each little squiggle seems to express itself rather fully when it's its turn to show up in the exposed edge, and I sense that by the time I've got past it all I'll have a 3/8 wedge. Either that or I'll get lucky and they'll be a point in honing where the edge is free of squiggles, and I'll be fine as long as I never need to do any heavy honing again.
Has anyone ever experienced this? Very frustrating.

Just a little oxidation to work through. A nice shaving 3/8 is better than a terrible shaving 5/8.
