Thanked: 17Salmen's hone, London
i recently acquired this beautiful, natural vintage hone from SALMEN'S of London, England. it lapped to a super fine finish, behaved like a dark blue Esher on the DMT coarse diamond stone. it is 8.0" long, 2.0" wide and 15/16" thick. the lapped surface feels as smooth as silk. does anyone know anything about this stone?

Thanked: 10Forgive the necromancy here but I was wondering if anyone might be able to shed any light on a stone I have that I believe is the same as this. I know Salmen sourced stones from various quarries in Wales, and the rest of the UK, and elsewhere in the world. So I don’t know if there’s any way of telling exactly what it might be...?
Mine is 8x2x1/2”, and judging by the box can never have been much thicker. It’s quite fine, finishes a razor really quite well feeling almost Thuri-like in use, and notably very soft kicking up a lot of dark grey, almost black slurry as soon as an atoma hits it. Relatively dark blue-grey with some quite pretty kinda mottled 3d surface patterns when wet.
