pinnacle 0.3 micron honing film.
Hey guys,
I'm visiting my in-laws today near Washington D.C., and thought that it would be fun to go to the local woodcraft store and check it out.
It was cool to check out all the stones and DMT offerings in person. I ended up picking up some lacewood for scales, a 6 x 12 piece of Hand American bench strop leather, and a 3 pack of Pinnacle 0.3 micron honing film.
This stuff is super smooth, and looks like it could be decently durable when used properly. It's white, so I'm assuming that it's aluminum oxide.
I bought 3 sheets that were 14" x 2 inch or so. I figure that I'll cut them in half, and that will give me 6 7x2" 0.3 micron sheets. I've got a piece of granite tile that is just as flat as my granite reference plate that I'll cut down to size.
Has anyone else ever used this? for 8 bucks, it seems that it could be hard to beat.
I just shaved today with a swedish steel Dovo that was finished on chromium oxide, so I'll do a couple of passes on the 0.3 micron sheets tomorrow, strop it up, and post a review.
If anyone with experience with this wants to chime in that would be great.
Here's a link to the sheets:

I generally go from my 16K Shapton to CrOx for final polish prior to shaving. I had previously purchased .5 as well as .025 diamond paste and after using them discovered they left my edges VERY uncomfortable to shave with. Granted, the Aluminum Oxide isn't as hard as a diamond abrasive-but still might create an unpleasant edge.
It has been my experience that finishing with CrOx has ALWAYS improved my Shaving comfort. As far as the honing film goes

Thanked: 150I've used them, they worked for me (only used the films once or twice though).
Let us know how it goes, I don't recall it making much difference, but it has been a while.
