    Default DMT INFO

Hi i have an old DMT that i bought for knife sharpening. i watched a video on You tube where a Dmt was used to set the bevel on a very dull razor. my question is this DMT is a steel plate mounted to a 1/2 inch high dark red plastic base, it came in a wooden box. does anyone know what grit it might be. and does the surface ever wear out. mine is in good shape. thanks for your help.

If I recall correctly, DMT uses red for fine, which is equivalent to 600 grit.

I recently added a DMT 8E (extra fine) to the honing line up, that thing will create a bevel in no time at all!

The red is 600 mesh, the green is 1200, and the tan is 8000. My current avatar is a picture of the 4 3/8" models in those colors/grits.

Have DMT started making their 8k hone in a size smaller than 8"x3"? I would be interested in this hone, do you know the model number? I already have the D4F and D4E, and find them quite useful, although I would love it if they were just an inch or two longer.

Yes they have. It is designated as the W4EE. My D8EE is officially retired while I test this one.

Now if only they made a D6EE.....

I have those 'stones'. They came with a knife sharpening set and they work very well for quick touchups. The EE just came out a few months ago and I added it to my collection. My D4EE is not perfectly flat though, it has a couple of slightly high spots showing up.

send it back. They've got a warranty and will replace it no problem.
