    Default Sharp but not enough

My Dovo best is honed well. It passes the TPTon the wiki with flying colors. Shaves well. But I think it could shave better. I think it needs to be sharper.

2.5k sandpaper to 5k Arkansas surgical (dry) to 12k Chinese (wet) to either stop or chrom ox linen. Currently I have done 20 linen and 100 leather.

    What am I missing?

A Norton 4/8 ? Also, I do 50 on linen and 50 on leather. The post by mparker that got me into that has it as 50 linen 30 leather. I too go by the TPT but I also like to have the razor pop hairs suspended above the skin on my arm or leg. If it doesn't easily pop hairs I keep at the 4/8 until it does. Just the way I do it YMMV.

Yeah I think I am there at the 4/8. I'll try the popping thing. Should I go back to the 5k and start over?

I would go back to the Chinese 12K wet and perform 100 laps, chrome ox for 20 laps, strop for 50 laps, shave test. Repeat if necessary.

Drp the sandpaper and Arkansas stone, get a Norton 4/8. The sandpaper is putting a slight convex on the bevel. The Arkansas can only take that out with a lot of work. Arkansas is a good stone but a Norton is much better for razors.

Hone it out to 30000 on a Shapton and you won't have to wonder anymore!
