    I don't think they're superior in that sense. It's just that you're getting a whole lot more hone surface for the same size stone? Those little dips are supposed to be there to collect swarf and avoid loading up (longer). Assuming these stones ever wear out, the ones with the dimples would wear out a lot faster simply because there isn't as much abrasive surface area. Never used one with the dimples but I would imagine they're not good for honing points or tips of knives, maybe a rolling X stroke, etc.
