Great news. Congrats Bart.
Good they made those razors so thick. Gives us a chance to save them 150 years later
Hope there was not too much 'plastic deformation' from that buff ( just kidding )“The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.”

Bart you have much more patience than I. If it were me it would have hit the trash can long ago. My hat is off to you.

Thanked: 171This thread was a great read! Congratulations Bart, that has to feel good!
I'm curious, though, is the eagle now crippled?

Thanked: 131Wahoo! Congratulations my man! And may I also say thank you in advance.
Is there any chance we could see a pic of how it is so we can compare before/after by any chance?

Thanked: 1212Sandy, I pray you don't burst into tears, when you see the amount of steel I needed to remove. As you can see, the one-layer-of-tape bevel extends all the way to the toes of the eagle. Part of the arrows are gone. Nothing I could do to prevent that. Neither grind or spine on this old razor are even, and that shows up in the varying width of the bevel. In an attempt to make it less obvious, I polished that bevel before going to 3 layers of tape and cut a much smaller bevel that hones up pretty straightforward.
Without putting much effort in finalizing the edge, I got a smooth and close shave out of it. I believe the razor shows promise to be an awesome shaver.
Ok, now that you're fully prepared, you may scroll down...
Bart.

Thanked: 1212I don't know if you should call it patience. But I'm terribly stubborn to the verge of being obstinate. Every once in a while it pays off.
Glad there actually was solid steel to be found on that razor. Otherwise I would have send a naked spine to Sandy over a month or so, with a short note: "solid steel was none, sorry".
Again, thanks to all for cheering at the side line.
(funny that no one noticed something about the stone that Wade & Butcher is sitting on, in the last picture...)
Regards,
Bart.

Thanked: 3164RE: the stone, I thought my eyes must have been deceiving me - it looked like a dirty great BBW - it couldn't be, could it?!
