+1 on this...I have used many different Arkansas stones, and have never had one actually make a slurry during use....Although they will make a bit of a slurry when lapped, even if it is a bit thin.

I'd say your idea of waiting and comparing to the 8K is a good one, although I wouldn't wait....I'd just use it and shave with it then re hone with the 8K and decide which is a better edge.
