Thanked: 402Inlisting if I may!
That ChrOx hone is just cool!
I was working a lot with shellac in my hat maker years.
How did you incorporate it?

What process did you use for teh barber hone? I have been experimenting on this and have been able to make solid SiC buy burning sandpaper grit in fuel rich KNFO/ANFO (fuel rich slows it down some), and it leaves lumps of solid slag that I strongly suspect is contaminated with K2CO3, though I think this will not be bad as it is softer than steel. None the less, how do you make it in such a nice shape?

For the record, Charlie, if you choose for whatever reason to refrain from sharing your processes for the time being or into the future, it's fine in my book. To me there are different types of info such as technique ("I make my pins [this way]" or "I sand my blades like this" versus product. If this works, you've got something cool here and I say run with it!

Thanks for all of the encouragement from everybody, I really appreciate it.
I am not really sure where I am going with these hones yet, I am still in the evaluation and refining stage. I have worked pretty hard and done a lot of research in this area. Thanks to Randy and his ideas and motivation I/We finally came up with a good product. I have spent time, money, and made a LOT of bad hones to get to this point. I not ready to give up recipe and process. I will have to see where this project leads before I make any decisions.
The hones are a polymerized shellac binder with abrasive.
Thank you,
Charlie

Thanked: 3795If you do go into mass production of these, I know of a store front in Monrovia Iowa that would be perfect for it, as long as you're willing to re-start the American Hone Company!

Thanked: 317Let me echo one more time that I'm very impressed.
From the side, that 2-sided barber hone has a look that is very much like my amaloid barber hone, which tells me you much be headed in the right direction.
