Thanked: 132Translucent meet Charnley, Charnley meet translucent...kiss, kiss.
Did some cutting and pasting this weekend. Those who can't bear to see a Charnley cut, look the other way.
8x1.75x1 combination Charnley/Translucent.
The other half of the Charnley is soon to meet Mrs. Surgical Black...hopefully this weekend. We will see.

How did you cut it and what type/brand glue to fasten one to the other ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 132Hey Jimmy,
I bought a water/tile cutter with a 7" diamond blade for the cutting. As for glueing, i used a loc-tite waterproof glue...im not sure what i think of the glue. It is a very solid glue, but there is probably better out there.
I havnt finished lapping the combination stone, in the photo, will finalize and make it ready for honing tonight. I also made a combination slurry stone to go with it, but i forgot to post that, in the picture.
Thanks,
Mac

I'll give you props for workmanship, but if I ever see you I will shoot you on account of blasphemy. Why? Why? Why would you cut a great stone like that in half? All that dust from grinding is useable stone! Now your great great great great grandchildren may not have a Charnley, cus your great great great grandchildren used it up cus it wasn't thick enough... And you put it with and AK stone? That's like if I cut you in half and sewed up together with half of paris hilton. How would you like that?
EDIT: Now that I've calmed down, and the damage is done, THAT is a sweet hone, and I would buy it if it were in the store. That still doesn't mean I would do it to a charnley, but if it were already done, it looks kinda good.

The Charnley is a very hard stone. Just ask the diamond blade it ruined...the combinations, will last a very long time my friend.

Oh I know they're hard. I'm just sayin'- after 12 generations have gone through both stones, the 13th will be stuck in 3015 in a post nuclear apocalyptic wasteland with no natural stones in sight, only green lava, crying because Mac 1006 years ago decided he would saw it in half, wasting a few grams of precious rock!
