That is entirely possible. I find that razors have their own personalities and out of the blue sometimes one will get stubborn or hone differently or even do better on another hone. Never have figured that one out.

Not to say the blade is defective - but it sounds like certain bits of the steel are more readily accepting to a good hone whilst other times and at different blade depths the steel is harder/softer and less/more willing to work with you. Does this not signify uneven tempering of the steel during the hardening process?

Here is an old thread where custom razor maker Joe Chandler recommends the Tam 'O Shanter hone in a pyramid with the Norton 8k for Wacker razors. An interesting combination if you have both hones.
