    Default DFW HM

Like the title states, I am looking for an HM here in the DFW area. I've been sharpening knives and shop tools for some time but I keep on reading about the gigantic difference between an SR sharpened by a pro VS one by a razor noob. Thank you all.

I live in Arlington, Texas and see you live in Dallas. Maybe we will run into each other at one of our local get togethers. (I haven't been to one, but hear they occur.)

I'm not a honemeister by any means. Getting good edges with pastes and balsa and linen and leather strops though. But, you need to learn the right way, and not the cheap way. Hopefully, someone from our area will speak up.

I am no honemeister, but I do have an abrasive personality.

Are you getting good shaves with your self honed razors? If so it is just fine tuning.

I will bring my stones to the next meet up, There are a lot of talented folks in the metroplex.

I am outside of Wichita Falls.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I've expirienced some solid 7.5 to 9's. But would sure love to feel a 10. :-) All my edges (on a decent razor that has a good bevel to start) have passed the hanging hair test coming off of 1 Micron Diamond Spary and do so much easier after a progression to .25 Micron. ( All my abrassive sprays and powders are from Hand America, Thanks Keith)

It sounds like your nearly there, small changes, time, and figuring out how best to use the equipment you have will get you there. I do not get a 10 edge every time, on some razors I never get a 10 edge. Other times it takes me 3 or four iterations till I get the edge where I want it to be. My big light bulb moment in honing was when Randydance062449 emphasised keeping track of what the edge feels like at every step of the process.

Sounds like good advice. I purchased a nice professionally sharpened razor and am expecting it anytime now. I'd love to have something to compare to, my 8.5 to 9 could very well be a low 7. :-)
