For bubbles to form, I would think there would need to be some elastic quality to the slurry. Just air escaping from the stone wouldn't do that. Perhaps there is a natural substance embedded in the stone that has qualities similar to soap. I have no clue what that substance might be, but as you move the blade across the stone, air gets trapped within the elastic slurry resulting in bubbles.
Perhaps this also would explain why this stone produces results similar to an Escher and why some old barbers used shaving cream or soap on their coticules.Last edited by radaddict; 09-25-2009 at 06:37 PM.

Or maybe it's a soapstone.

Could it be radon gas being released ?
