    Default A comfortable edge

I don't remember how long ago I honed this razor (Tuckmar stainless), but I hit it up with Dovo white pasted canvas prior to every shave, and it has been giving me great shaves for quite some time now.

    Close, comfortable, long lasting shaves.

So I decided to take a look at the edge:

Just graphically shows what I've said all along..... if you limit your magnification to 30x your honing will improve dramatically. Thanks for the photos .... very interesting.

This razor isn't quite as comfortable, for some reason:

    very interesting and eye-pleasing pictures.
    Nice honing skills

Edit: what the... ah, come on, I wasn´t referring to *this* picture
btw. seeing the last picture, this is the first time I would actually recommend
honing the spine rather than the edge. Would be less complicated.

Seraphim, your blade is in good shape after so many shaves. And, I bet your blade is in better shape than some might think after viewing the images. When I started using the Radio Shack 100x microscope, there were some "flaws" in my blade that look quite similar to the "flaws" seen at higher magnification in your pictures. But, I noticed they had a predominate direction. On a hunch, I wiped the blade again, but this time with the last swipe of the cloth in the other direction. Sure enough, now the "flaws" in the blade had the opposite predominant direction.

I suspect some of the "flaws" seen in your blade are simply droplets of oil, or some other substance. It surprised me how difficult it was to completely rid a blade of these droplets or streaks.

The diagonal streaks are oil residue. The edge I do not think is obscured by this.

The faint lines perpendicular to the edge are caused, I believe by the Dovo white paste.

    Would you use tape?

I agree. That is why I said at the top of my post that some might interpret the pictures as showing flaws (in the bevel) that were not flaws.
