    Default BBW Dilucot

    Well,

Much like Aquanin, I decided to give the BBW Dilucot method a try on a C-Mon Blackie that I was having trouble establishing a bevel on the yellow side.

I did about 4 1/2 stroke sets and it wasnt really cutting arm hairs at that point. I started to speed up the dilution a bit, and felt the blade sticking to the hone. I did about 2 more 1/2 stroke sets and proceeded to the dilution. I finished up with 60 x strokes on the yellow side. Proceeded to strop 50 on Linen and 80 on Leather. The blade is wicked sharp for sure.

Just because its sharp doesnt mean it will be a comfortable shave. Ill keep you guys updated on that. Kinda mysterious on which to stick with now...All Yellow or BBW followed by yellow.

    Ill keep you guys posted

    Very interesting!

Am not familiar with the dilucot method, does that involve a back honing type stroke?

I usually will go coticule and slurry---bbw slurry--coticule water. I don't know how it counts as full bbw dilucot if you're going to another stone after the bbw, I believe you would finish on the bbw also.

I also do that when I'm in a coticule/bbw mode. Sometimes I follow with an escher and sometimes I don't. All is fair in love, war and honing razors. I've never finished on the bbw only though. I always felt that I could get a better edge following with the yellow but I have to admit I never tried the other way.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I usually do full Dilucot but have been experimenting with setting the bevel on the yellow side with slurry, then moving to the BBW and diluting down from heavy to light slurry (not all the way to water) then finishing on the yellow with just water. It is working really well and its very fast, as in around 5-7 minutes from not shaving at all to shaving sharp. These coticules are lots of fun!!

I love my coticule too! I might have to get a BBW to play with too.

I havent played around with the bbw too much but I usually start on a thick slurry and dilute down to almost water and then switch over to the coti with a bit of slurry and go until plain water. So far that has been giving me some great shaves.

I might pick up a eBay razor to play around with it some more cuz at the moment I only have two grelots and I don't wan to be experimenting with them.

    Glen,

They mean back and forth strokes and then flip and do another set of back and forth strokes, like japanese honing.
