Thanked: 993I prefer the rocks.
With pastes, one of two things is happening, and I'm still experimenting. Either I'm not using the pastes correctly, and as a result my edges are not great....or....I'm using the pastes correctly, and I don't like the feel of them. Regardless, I'm still experimenting and in the meantime I finish most of my razors on the stones, because I DO like the feel of them when I'm complete.

Thanked: 267Yes it does continue in what I feel could be an entirely new direction. CBN is a radical departure from any small particle paste that I have ever used. Science is coming close to replicating what we like in J-Nats and that is the random particle size coupled with rounded particle structure. It is a very unique substance for stropping a razor......the journey continue! We will see. I am approaching with some trepidation because every time I though I have found the "holy grail" of razor sharpening something else has come along. I will say this though, after a little more than an month.... I can't feel the pea under the mattress anymore. I am "finally" almost 100% happy with my edges.
Take Care,

Thanked: 40I like the idea of pastes but after investing in a gs16k and a coticule I don't want to, I suppose hide the work I've done ^_^

Thanked: 4942It is rare that the quality of a shave cannot be improved with the proper use of either a paste or spray.

It's all in the mood for me. I love the edge of a coticule. But I also like going to Cromox as well. So for me it's a toss up.

Thanked: 1371I like paste.
It tastes good.
I like the edges off of pasted strops as well.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Normally I just finish off the hones, but I do use chrome ox on the SRD webbing sometimes. I haven't really played with the paste enough to form any conclusions, as I just recently pasted mine.
I've also played with the .5 diamond on hard wool felt at Lynn's. It gives a really sharp edge, but I haven't had enough shaves with razors off it to form any conclusions, either.

I don't think Anyone else could say better.
Pastes have been used for centuries .
I used to use it long time ago.
I don't use anymore.
I get the edge the level which i like and don't need any additional way to improve the edge.
i was getting razors from people who used pastes and very often find out they most likely used paste aggressively and edge was loosing it is holding ability.(basically was sharp for couple shaves then was getting dull compare to honed blades).
This is why if you do use it properly past will help a lot.
