I do not like a pasted edge
tryed 5 different pastes and still nothing as good(for me)as an unpasted edge

I tried pastes and never liked them.

Hones for me too. Up until now I've never found a pasted edge that I preferred. I am curious about cerium oxide though and have never tried it. It's one of those things on my things to do out of idle curiosity list.

I like using pastes and sprays after using a finishing hone. I know that many feel that if you use, say, diamond spray after a Nakayama Asagi you no longer have an Asagi edge. There is also the school of thought that pastes/sprays are sort of like cheating. OK, I guess I wouldn't argue too much with either point of view. I just like the results I am getting. This is clearly a YMMV subject.

It is all a progression of abrasives and touch.
