OK Ross , I gotta ask, why white vinegar ? My brain's saying your stones will dissolve & your blades will rust

I'm moving over to the states soon Glen so I will give it a try when I get there, it's funny that smiths (specialist) honing solution is cheaper than a bottle of modified sugar lol

I don't think I'd put acetic acid near my blades our stones lol but I'ed it works for you then cool!

Agree Glycerin is a good product to use. Only suggestion, use USP Glycerin. This is a food grade product. Dont get confused with different grade of glycerin. There is a lot of low grade glycerin out there.

Well lets see here,cut 50/50 with water,I have a half pint,using a standard Eye dropper I need about 4 drops for an average size coti.Are 4731 drops in a half pint,thats enough for 1182 blades,when I use the stuff which is rarely.
Gotta see if I can find me a gallon on the bay

I recently used glycerin and water when finishing a razor on a coticule, and the results seem to be very nice based on all my post-honing tests. I haven't been able to shave with the edge yet, though, since I have stitches in my left thumb and can't grip the razor properly.

I changed to the 50/50 glycerine to water mix ... Much nicer than with spirits!
