Vintage Escher/Fleabay
Would someone who knows this stone tell me why it sold for such a reasonable price? I'm sure I've seen these stones go for more, much more. Is it any given day anything could happen? Or did something look funny about the stone?

It's the real thing some collectors don't seem like to see that seal coating stuff on the labels.
Or maybe everyone willing to spend good money spent it on other ones with boxes.
Could have ben not a lot of folks with money to spend where looking that week.

Thanked: 4249Its the real stone for sure, i think most prefer the other kind of labels with the barber scene on them, in the end the honing is all the same.

Thanked: 1936Timing has a lot to do with it too. There were times I would see Charnley Forest stones go for super high, then coticules, and so on. There is always something that is the "rage" like the double ducks, wade & butchers, philly's....you get my point. If you are patient and know what you want, you will end up with it at a fair price...if you aren't patient, you will pay through the nose.

Well, here is what really prompted this question. I was thinking that if someone could reproduce a Rembrandt painting that could fool many 'expert' art appraisers and most average viewers, maybe some rat could reproduce an Escher label, age it, and glue it to a PHIB. I know, sounds pretty unlikely....

Thanked: 247I am sure that would happen if there was enough market for it. I think the reality is that it is way easier to knock off other easier stuff to rip people off with (clothing for example....sew in a simple tag some basic embroidery and double your money)
But, yeah, if people keep spending big bucks on rocks it is only a matter of time (actually it is sort of happening already, just maybe not Eschers)

If I pick up the one that ending soon.
It wouldn't be a crime to make a cut on the broken side
to use that piece as a slurry stone other other same rocks would it.
