    Default Thiers-Issard Spartacus

Based on the picture, can I have opinions about this TI razor:

Older TI sparti, as it has the metal spartan as opposed to painted on or on the most modern ones, none at all. Should be very high quality. Cant tell from this photo if the blade is heat discolored from buffing the back side, if it is just a little tarnished, or if its a simple trick of the light.

The discoloration looks like a reflection of the person taking the photo but its hard to know for sure. Otherwise it looks like a nice addition.

What type of scales are those...not good at identifying different materials...would they be bone scales???

And I don't know if it's the pic...but the edge of the blade looks almost likes it's serated??

That is a low photo and if you try and magnify it the edges get jagged/pixelated. I don't think the scales are bone but faux ivory celluloid like on Henckels Friours. Looks like old production TI and has old style pinning before they went to those awful looking nail head type new pins.

As always Bob, thanks for your help.

If it is your first TI blade, just go. Those are wonderful shavers, real hardwork to bring them to shave, but once you are on the strop, you you are in for a gooooooooooood time.

If it is your not your first blade, and if you have only (a) recent blade(s), the scientific curiosity could be a good buying alibi. Those ol'Schoolers are really different.

I've got about 12 blades, 3 are brand new TI's, one of which is a Spartacus, 6/8th w faux MOP scales, and yes, they shave superbly and are gorgeous razors!!

I liked this one, but the guy doesn't really know razors, fixed a price in his head and wouldn't budge. When I explained that for the price he was asking, it should be in much, much better condition, and here is why...he didn't want to hear it....I offered him more than a fair price.

So, this one wasn't meant to me, no problem....there are plenty out there if you're patient.

the fact that there is still no determination on discoloration or no, would make me hesitate. I say let it go. There will always be another!
