Default A tab bit confused about the ebay name list

    Hey all,

Just confused as to the function of the name list. In the last month, I've been outbid several times by a member and in one instance, I had the price of an auction jacked up by the prodding of member. I have bowed out many an auction when I've seen another member bidding, so I'm wondering if the bids placed against me was an accident? Or do some people not check the list at all?

Now please don't take this thread the wrong way. I'm am not upset by any measure, just a bit baffled. I have also had some very good experinces with other members on ebay, including one where the other person had offered to bow out (Hey Lou! I was just wishing you luck, not bidding. Hope you won and got it for a good price)

    Brendon,

Curious as to how you do your search looking for ebay names. I assume you just put the ebay name in the search window and see what comes up?

    Hi David,

That was sort of what I was leading up to. Currently there are 49 pages to that particular sticky, and I find it hard scrolling thru that thread every time looking for ebay names.

I had sort of hoped for some sort of spread sheet with say alphabetical ebay names with our member names besides, and then the list could be updated as often as needed.

Of course I don't know if this would be possible, or indeed if I'm missing something when I do a search

    Thanks

    John

By jove, that's exactly what I was looking for Is this something that has always been accessible, or have I just never seen it? Now how do I go about finding this link again?

    Thanks

This has been discussed a few times and deciding whether to bid or not to bid against another member is something that we'll never get consensus on. It's a personal choice with really valid arguments on both sides.

I usually look to see if someone else has bid on an item before I bid, but 90% of the time someone snipes anyway so it really doesn't make any difference.

You can always contact a member who has bid to find out their max bid (if they'll tell you) to see if it's worth your time putting in a bid at all. They may want it a lot more than you $$.

I get a bit pissed if someone wins an auction that I have bid on member or not, but I get over it and move on to the next one.

I download the XL file, and keep a copy on my Windows desktop. If I see a member on the bidders list, I either don't bid, or, if it's something I really want, I'll drop them a PM and tell them what my maximum bid will be, and, if they're willing to bid more, then ask them to let me know and I won't set up a snipe (that way, I won't be the one to run up their bid) - conversely, if I'm willing to go higher than them, then I would ask that they not bid, because the item will go for at least my bid (if not more, if I get outbid) and their bid might runup my price.

That's just the way I handle it - and if I have accidently sniped anyone, well, TOUGH!!!

I did, thank you very much!

BTW If you download the file, you'll need to update (redownload) it occasionally to be current.

I view ebay as fair game. If there is a razor I want, I bid my max price. I don't pay attention to any other bidders. I set the price and go with it. However, I don't use any "snipe" programs. My bidding is done live. Generally, I bid when I see a razor, and I win or I don't. I determine what I am willing to pay, and place the bid. If I win, fine. If I don't, fine.
