Flabergasted: Bill Ellis custom straight sell on ebay for under $200
Bill Ellis 1 5 8ths Straight Razor Alternating Leaf Engraving Spalted Maple | eBay
I had it in my watch list but didn't bother putting in a bid as I expected it to go sky high. Just stunned at that price.

Thanked: 1587You mean it was low, right?
Weird wording on the description too - to me it reads like 1 and 5 eights inches ie 13/8, but it sure doesn't look that big to me.
And if you didn't look at the monkey tail, the third pic makes it look like the scales are on upside down (or maybe that's just me)! lol!
But yeah, any custom by a good maker going for that amount is a real bargain. Someone got lucky.

I usually go over the vintage straight section on eBay a couple of times a week but never saw this listing. What heading was it under???

The Ellis was listed in "straight razors".

Seems to be typical of customs in general. As you have one made to your particular specs, it may not appeal to everyone.
Best to be certain you are in it for the long run as a shaver. Notsomuch an investment!

Thanked: 3227That is also my take on custom anything, you have a limited number of people it appeals to on a resale. If you get someone that is hot for it on resale, flog it because they will be willing to pay the price unless you are willing to hang on to it.

That is quite surprising.
I've lost out on Ellis razors on ebay before, but they went for more than 1500USD...Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....
