Thanked: 8Looks like an old razor (1880-90s?) with aluminum scales. Aluminum was at one time more precious than gold. The pyramid at the top of the Washington Monument is solid aluminum and was chosen because it was so rare. Not too surprising that a premium razor from the late 1800's woul be scaled this way.

All patina is seemingly uniform and dull. No sign of tarnish. Thinking aluminum. old blade shoved in. Neat scales!
Seems to be gone?"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Yes aluminum was once considered very precious. Pure aluminum also takes forever to oxidize but has crappy structural properties. Alloys solve that problem but then corrode. This is why aircraft aluminum (alclad) is made of an alloy and skinned in pure aluminum (2.5%-5% depending on the material thickness split between the two sides). The question then is, Is this pure aluminium? If not, it should be corroded or else it is new.
