I spotted this razor on eBay, and find that I'm confused by the wear on its spine. The wear on the show side wasn't all that remarkable, but what causes something like this (on the back side)?

It could be unevev honing. Look down the spine from back toward tip. Is there a curve to the blade. If so that could be the problem.

Possibly the stone that it was always honed on had a rounded edge. The bevel is much larger toward the heel. So honing "heel heavy" on a rounded edge hone would produce that wear pattern.
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Looks like a grinding mistake to my eyes, but what do I know.

from what it looks like the grind of the blade (the hollow) is not consistent.
On older blades that had more hand work done or on reground blades it is not unusual to see some variation.
The more hone wear the more noticeable.

Just my thoughts from the picture.

Looks like the razors I get in every day with little notes saying that I picked this up and it is in good condition but needs a light honing or I tried to hone it myself but before I mess it up, I wanted to send it to you or I got it this way and I never touched it and heck I don't even own a hone or know what one is or on and on and on........

    Obviously a razor to avoid.

    Have fun.

I would buy it for 2 bucks at a yard sale, simply for the challenge of honing it up to shave again
