"Economy International Shipping" was $14 and required a signature at my end.

That looks sweet! I want one. 4 days is awfully quick from japan. But its only a 16 hour flight so, customs must not have held it up. Sounds like you got lucky!

I've always been impressed with the Japanese postal service, but saying that it's only as good as the country it's arriving in so If your side not up to the task then it matters not what country it was sent from.

Postal EMS from Japan has been very fast for me as well.
