    Default Ebay's Global Shipping Program

I've wanted a Mappin and Webb for a long time and saw this as a BIN for USD$50.00.
Trouble was, the shipping charge was USD$50.00 as well so I contacted the vendor
and he kindly changed the listing and took this razor out of the ebay GSP for me.

The new shipping charge was USD$19.95....big difference !!
He told me the GSP was hurting his overseas sales quite badly.

It never hurts to ask if you think shipping charges are excessive !!
BTW, here are the vendor's pics:

The GSP was really designed for pricey items where the big charge is chickenfeed. You can opt out of it at any time.

Yea, I guess ebay sellers are not too aware of what GSP cost the buyer. Still think it is a thinly disguised way of introducing couriers and horrendous brokers fees into the equation. Need proof of that http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Buying-o...m/qaq-p/122911 . They can stick GSP where the sun don't shine. Sellers better wise up too.

No, I think someone at Eboy came up with the idea to counter the old argument people don't want to sell International. They don't want to deal with broken corrupt postal services and do the paperwork and all that and the lack of insurance.

GSP corrects all that but it's like someone who is sick and the cure is death.

I really don't know what is broken with the USPS or with CanPost either. Both services have managed to get me my orders over the years from the USA in good time and tracked start to finish. Our CBSA (Customs) has cleared the order same day as shown by the tracking scans. If there are any taxes owing I pay the postie at the door or phone my payment in. It takes 2 minutes to fill out a customs declaration at the post office and stick it to the package, at least it does here, to send something out of country. As a buyer you can always request insurance and pay for it.

OTH as a buyer you are not hit with crazy brokers fees etc via the postal system. The cure for those excessive fees is to simply not buy from a seller using GSP or as the OP did request another shipping method if the seller will do that.

I just got an order today from California that took 7 days to get to my door including a weekend which is dead air.
I really don't see what is broken with that and there were no brokers fees.

I just used it to ship an item to the Russian federation. As soon as it got to Kentucky I was off the hook. I'm loving it.

So long as you and the buyer are happy that is all that counts.

There are a lot of buyers out there that do not like the GSP and will not use it after getting stung. That fact remains whether you are happy or not.

Well oddly enough I had forgotten that I had opted in. When I saw the high bidder was from the Russian federation I winced. It may be safe to ship there, it may not be. Then there is the customs routine, tracking is generally poor if at all. So you send your item and hope for the best. In this case I insured it from FL to KY and once there it is ebay's problem. I confirmed that with them. Anything goes wrong I'm covered all the way. That may not be worth it to the buyer, only he can decide whether the item is worth paying the freight, but to me it is a big relief. Of course to some international destinations I wouldn't be as apprehensive, and maybe there is nothing to worry about to Russia. Dunno.

I worry about nothing when I ship out of CONUS,The onus is on the buyer to decide what he wants.
I sent two razors,USPS standard air to portugal today,The custom docs take 2 mins to fill out.
I Told the buyer, shipping standard air (no tracking,no Ins.) will be 16USD.
If you want full tracking and ins,It will be 56USD,yay or nay? he declined and went with standard Air.
I print out the response and file it away (this is what paypal told me to do)
I would feel bad if the package was lost or badley damaged, but I have zero liability.
Sellers have rights also, just protect yourself.

Like I said not a thing wrong when both parties agree to an arrangement and it is likely the best for the seller, no problem there either.
