With that said. I'm looking to get my hands on an old heavy sr. Problem is they rarely can be had for less than 60 on the bay.

So I've done some thinking. If there is some chipping I know I can fix it. But this one looks on the border of barely salvageable/irreparable.

Please tell me if It's do able or not. Don't give me the "steer clear rookie" just looking for some honesty

I wouldn't go near it. You do realize that by the time your done honing the chips out, you're going to end up with a 4/8-5/8 blade. And it looks like you *will* be honing into the heel to accomplish that. I could be wrong....but....

Actually I'm in agreement. The chip closest to the heel looks to deep but barely. Wasn't sure if its my eyes or not.

LOL. Remove the "ebay: " from the URL and you'll see it.

If you want to practice your restoration technique, then go for it. Otherwise I would keep looking.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

I didn't really notice the enormous chip at the toe. I was more focused on the one towards the heel. Think I'm gonna pass. Thanks for the advice everyone.

I thought you were after an "old heavy sr." That one doesn't appear all that heavy, and the relationship between the shank and the blade makes me think it was once much heavier than it is now. If you really want something old, heavy and cheap, lay a PM on me.

Still looking for an old heavy sr., my first wife is on the market. You should know that she is nasty however!
