Please don't snatch this up
With that said. I'm looking to get my hands on an old heavy sr. Problem is they rarely can be had for less than 60 on the bay.
So I've done some thinking. If there is some chipping I know I can fix it. But this one looks on the border of barely salvageable/irreparable.

I wouldn't go near it. You do realize that by the time your done honing the chips out, you're going to end up with a 4/8-5/8 blade. And it looks like you *will* be honing into the heel to accomplish that. I could be wrong....but....

If you want to practice your restoration technique, then go for it. Otherwise I would keep looking.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

I thought you were after an "old heavy sr." That one doesn't appear all that heavy, and the relationship between the shank and the blade makes me think it was once much heavier than it is now. If you really want something old, heavy and cheap, lay a PM on me.
