Thanked: 0New Damascus Kamisori by Tanaka
I came across this blade, and it was so beautiful I couldn't resist. Besides, shaving swords are what inspired me to go straight edge.

I purchased it brand new, unused. My first non vintage. It is a Tanaka razor in damascus/folded #2 blue steel. Eventually I would like to have it wrapped in traditional rattan with stingray. My only fault with it is the slightly uneven lamination line, but as these are near impossible to find I can live with it.
I will post pictures when it arrives.Last edited by HunterHagan; 05-21-2014 at 03:57 AM.

Well done if that was what you were looking for,
As far as the fault, my kids are not perfect, nor my wife, or for that matter my friends,
but they are mine they are what I wanted and because of that they are treasured.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I have a few I grabbed, toiled over, and learned to hone with that I will never sell,
they are ugly ducklings to most, but to me they are swans.
What I am getting at is if it is acceptable and worth it to you, no one here has enough authority to tell you otherwise.
I personally think it looks absolutely great.
As a side note
I have not researched his razors but I have looked at his knives on more than one occasion if it is Tanaka Knives. It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

Thanked: 0I'm 99.99% sure it is the same Tanaka that makes nice knives. I've been looking for a kamisori, and a shave worthy damascus razor(separately). I thought these were long sold out(on cktg they are), so when it popped up on ebay I had to have it.
I was already in market for a kamisori, so I just decided to spend twice as much but kill 2 birds with one stone. I now have a razor combining my two favorite qualities, Japanese blade geometry and folded steel . Also I guess the lamination gives it character and another feature making it one of a kind. Overall i'm stoked.

Thanked: 0I just got a brand new damascus kamisori made of blue #2 steel. I want to get a traditional rattan wrap eventually.

Anyone got any honing tips? Or know of a pro kamisori honer?

I have the same razor! I bought mine from CKTG before they sold out. It is my first and only kamisori to date. I really like the way the razor looks but I'm still learning to use it. Big difference in shaving technique IMO. I stay traditional as much as possible regarding how I hold the razor but I do have to switch hands to get a few spots properly. Another challenge for me is that I'm left handed and the razor is right handed Not a huge deal since I learned to use both hands when I started SR shaving, but its still a challenge I would post a pic now, but I'm at work and never uploaded any pics to photobucket...my bad!
Also, I just noticed on your link that it says it was made by Kazuyuki Tanaka while CKTG says theirs is made by Shigeki Tanaka...
Regardless, its a gorgeous razor that one day I hope to master!! While still very much a kamisori noob, I get GREAT shaves from it! Congrats!!!

Thanked: 0Sorry for multiple posts. I still don't understand why my thread is sent here.
THIS ISNT AN EBAY DISCUSSION. I FRIGGIN BOUGHT IT ALREADY
NO AUCTION BEING DISCUSSED, JUST A RAZOR.
SO KEEP IT IN THE RAZOR FORUM!
If you move the thread I make when it arrives i'm gonna be pissed off. Everyone but me is allowed to show off their purchase? This is bullshit

Thanked: 485How interesting. Your posts appear to me to have a link to eBay in them. Maybe you could save the photo from the auction and ask the seller if you can use the picture on a forum until the razor arrives and then take your own photo, and that could possibly save any confusion...
Nice razor, I'll reserve my judgments about the other aspects of the thread as I am not a moderator.
