what's this all about? forge welded?
Hi folks, saw these antique straights on eBay, can anyone educate me in this type of straight razor? Are they forge welded, do they shave like a hollow grind?

**I'm not bidding on them, just curious.

I don't see any reference to "forge welded" in the description. Forge welded usually refers to 'pattern welded damascus'. The frameback in the link is a factory produced razor which is a forged blank ground and tempered AFAIK. The old vintage razors make fine shavers if they are in good condition without excessive honewear or corrosion in the bevel IME.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thank you! good to know they're called framebacks, now I can search the site to my hearts content. May look to buy one in the future.

No worries, it was a fair question and it's in the auction talk thread...for instance, if you were actually interested in this blade, this would be the place to get some opinions on whether anyone saw any glaring issues or faults with it.
Now, if the auction is live, and you have a question or you're curious, it may be better to find a member you've seen post about what you're interested in, and Private Message them for their opinion, that way if you're interested in the blade, or it's a live auction, the entire world and the forum won't be in on it.

.....man, just when I was starting to make progress on paying down my CC dept.
I'd avoid that auction, that really is a horrible seller to deal with.Than ≠ Then
