Personally I think it is also a combination of other less tangible things, the cool factor is one. It is a razor made in the middle of the nineteenth century with horn scales and a huge, comparatively speaking, blade. Tell you what, 8 or 10 years ago you didn't have any custom makers turning out 8/8 blades, now there are a dozen, and more coming along all the time. I'm always lamenting the fact that all of the custom makers turn out 8/8 and larger ....... why not 6/8 which makes a lot more sense AFAIC.

Because 8/8 is what everyone wants more than one of the custom makers have told me. I guess if a guy is going for the $ for a custom he wants more bang for the buck ? Perhaps it is the type of thing that attracts some to a Hummer, or a Ford F-350 with a lift kit and four wheel drive with a big diesel engine ? Maybe why I want a 44 magnum and a 10mm glock ? There are intangibles that play into it too is all I'm saying.

Should a moment of madness overtake your common sense, and you feel like parting with that Anderson, I have a great fondness for giving money to madmen.

I agree with you, Jimmy. Didn't Josh Earl create some 5/8 or 6/8 as the first blades he sold in his brief time as a razor smith? IIRC I don't think he went out of the gate with large blades.

Yes that is right Chris ....... IIRC. He eventually made the large blades along with the 'normal' sizes. OTOH, at the end he still made 5 and 6/8 too. He was getting good. Too bad he moved on.

Sorry about your 9/8. May I ask exactly what "eaten by my buffer" means? There are frequently mirror polished "restored" blades seen on the bay and I wonder how reliable they are.
    THANKS!

It means remove the safety guard...it snapped a quarter inch chunk out of the blade...and ate it.
