Thanked: 3225Yea, I keep forgetting about time zones. Being retired I'd just wake up for the actual auction at whatever time it kicked off.
Yea, if you put in a serious pre bid and left it at that it would be a way of preventing Stupid Auction Brain but I don't suffer from that.

For this one, the time difference isn't a big deal... But waking up at 3am to do business with Sheffield was physically painful for me!
I don't usually suffer from Stupid Auction Brain.
Usually.
Always glad to help!
For me, I usually do much better with this stuff when I figure out how much I want to pay well in advance, since auctions are kind of custom designed to push you . just. a. little... FURTHER.-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

Thanked: 118I watched the auctions via the Live Auction webpage on the company website, it was a lot of fun to follow. Will there be some way to see what each lot sold for? Like will the online catalog be updated? I wrote down the lot numbers and final sale price of some of the lots that interested me but didn't get them all.

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

There are a variety of sites that archive that information, but it's almost invariably a subscription service, since knowing auction prices is one of the way that dealers set retail prices on antiques (or at least some, especially on the higher end).
Of the stuff I was prepared to throw money at like it was confetti? Zip. Needed more confetti.
I did get the For John Barber's Use (John Barber, Expressly For Barber's Use), and a bunch of generic razors in neat old pressed horn, however.-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

The one I wanted, and didn't bid on, was the Mappin & Webb 7 day set, with nulli secundus etched on the blades. Had one like it 30 years ago and let it go. Wonder what it went for ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
