Not all W&B have the arrow and cross logo on them. Not sure why or when they started using it, but I have seen many that don't. They also made plenty of big blades that weren't FBU blades. Is there a difference in them? I seriously doubt it but I'm not positive.

Lol. I just reread my post and realized it wasn't any help at all. Sorry

That actually is a For Barber's Use. The jargon was etched onto the blade and it's been sanded off. One of the pictures has a closeup of 'black marks' on the blade, and you can just barely make out the lettering.

The arrow & cross is a bit of a mystery. My theory is that it, along with the 'Bow' mark were purchased from William Gilchrist in the early 1860's, but all the evidence is circumstantial.

What is pretty certain is that they never used either mark before 1860 or so.

That's about 40 years of production without using the mark, so there are a lot of Wade & Butcher razors without the arrow & cross.

Or learn a lesson and never let the forum know about a desirable razor until you've already placed the winning bid .......

On the top along the spine...looks like there could have been something written there...could be a, "Magnum Bonum"?

Good call, Zak. I thought at first it was a wedge reground. It is an old hollow-ground which was allowed to rust and sanded upon. Still, a neat old blade! Hell, I will bid!

A bit off topic, but is there a write up about the dating of the W&Bs? I don't remember running across one and searching for Wade and Butcher brings up way to many links to sort through.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
