His description says new and unused for that reason I personally wouldn't have purchased the razor as it's neither new and it's certainly used he doesn't even state there is a chip in the blade.

Indeed his description is misleading, but the pictures are very clear. There are many sellers on ebay who know nothing about straight razors but seem to be able to form a confident opinion on the condition of what they are selling.

Which is why the buyer should examine the pictures thoroughly before committing to buy.

I'd look at everything else he's selling. If he's selling 50 razors, then he should know. Go out and look at zigzigpapa's listings and he says every razor has a scratch and corrosion on it, even though some don't. I think he's just saying that to keep people from complaining about something.

Then look at the seller who brought the filarmonica that I bought onto ebay and asked $119 and called it "good condition" or something like that. It's covered with light rust. Zigzigpapa wouldn't have even listed it.

There are plenty of people who use iphones and apps, etc, to dig stuff out of antique markets are at flea markets and they list items based on what they can find as prior sales, they don't really know much about what they're selling other than it's worth the trouble to list it. I know a tool dealer like that in eastern shore maryland. He uses an iphone to figure out whether or not he should buy stuff and post it, and while he's not dumb, he doesn't know much about razors or razor hones and sometimes will list hindustans as coticules and coarse coticules as razor stones.

When people don't know, I cut them a little bit of a break as long as the pictures are good enough that I can get an idea.

So the razor was a 6/8 version, and the hone wear was worse in person than in the pictures. I contacted the seller, and he was very understanding of the misinformation. I will be receiving a partial discount, and keeping the razor. Half off the final price!!
