The tip sections Normally are solid for about 6 in.All this stuff comes from Asia. They know darn well that they can sell solid slabs and rnds for far more than hollow Horn.
The material is useless, unless you want to make a powder horn

Bill, could those hollow horns be "sliced" into sections that can hold a straight? Didn't you make one out of fossil a year ago? Or ,,, cut into brush stands?

Dang, that's a bummer. Isn't there anything that you can do with them?

Feel free to correct me, but I was under the impression that most scale slabs begin with a radius section cut from the original round section and are softened with heat either water or steam and pressed between steel plates to produce the flat slabs that we see available. If you think about it , I personally have never seen a animal with square horns. The area of the tips is solid, and this is the area that produces the highest quality material . Much of what is available is probably of the pressed variety.

I have no idea myself, but this would make sense, Buffalo horn always tends to warp in a roundish way if heated to much. IE trying to regain its original shape.
