Thanked: 4942I don't think we'll be seeing the price of razors going down. Some stabilization would be nice......... FYI, tis always been the same......new guys, bidding wars, gots ta has.....and on and on......Heck, we have created a market for the guys in Germany that didn't exist 10 years ago. Tons of guys over there are searching every nook for old unfinished blanks or forgotten about caches of razors.

Thanked: 17Right on Lynn, guys like Manyware and Germanrazors to name a couple. And razors aren't all! What about hones, yutahey paid $360.00 for a y/g Escher just over a month ago! And Tony sold a beautiful vintage Thueringen hone for over $300.00. And then there's Kees who bought a gorgeous y/g E. & Co., same as Escher, for 36 measley euros, 36!!! Damn Dutchman!!! Lucky dog!!! HAHAHAHAHA

I don't think the prices will go down either, but agree with Lynn that a little stability would be nice. If we started setting limits for ourselves on how much we would pay for a razor, then eventually razors would balance out around those prices. Of course, this only really works in theory. Actually getting hundreds of RAD afflicted men to stop their bidding wars and set restrictions on what they will pay for a razor is pretty unlikely.
Heck, I am guilty my self. I got my Boker Red Injun up to $120.00 because I "had to have it". Since then though, I generally try to not pay much more then $30.00 for a razor, and even then it has to be in pretty good condition to get that high. Still though, if one came along that I really wanted, I doubt I could restrict my self much.

Thanked: 05 Hezekiah 14:37-38 reads "Thus saith the Lord God after sunrise. 'I am the Lord thy God, and this shall be my eleventh commandment. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's razor, nor his hone, his hanging strop, his paddle strop, his badger brush, his silvertip, nor anything that is thy neighbor's. Now go forth, grow whiskers and shave.'"

I don't know about that Hezekiah reference, but it does say, "Though shalt not covet thy neighbors wife." And if you can't covet your neighbors wife, then why would you be able to covet you neighbors razor? I mean, the logic is pretty obvious to me. Am I the only one?
(And I wonder why I'm still single...)

Thanked: 0The books of Hezekiah were found in a remote part of the Holy Land only 15 or so years ago. There is one dedicated to the removal of the beard. Historians agree that this was truly the beginning of shaving shrines and various Acquisition Disorders. The Hebrews, no longer wanting to shave their beards, hid these books deep underground. It is a little known fact that these manuscripts are what inspired Lynn to start SRP.

In my experience, the razors I've picked up on eBay are sometimes a let-down at $25. I couldn't imagine how I'd feel if I'd paid $60. Sellers know there's been a surge, so they raise their starting prices accordingly. What they don't know are terms like 'hone-wear,' 'warped scales,' etc.

Thanked: 4I'm happy that I bought most of my vintage razors before the prices started to climb, but there are still some good buys to be found. Badly described razors, mis-classified razors and outright misspellings can all lead to a nice deal slipping under the radar on Ebay. I just won two nice razors for much less than they normally go for because the seller just called them a "lot of two razors". You just have to work a little harder these days to find the good deals.

Thanked: 0To further make the point, check this one that ended today: http://tinyurl.com/2jxr4x
A bargain Thuringen at $112.50. Except that the buyer could have bought it directly from Manufactum ( http://tinyurl.com/2pllno ) for far less, as all studious SRP members should have known.
