Thanked: 5this irks me!
so maybe a few of us know of the ebay seller 'tommyrazor'
awhile back i inquired about shipping charges to send an 8/8 wade and butcher (a pretty hefty razor) to Canada. He quoted me $9.00 and i think to myself: "thats's pretty high!" i didn't end up with the razor nor did i even bid on it as most of his razors are overpriced to begin with.
now recently I inquired about shipping for a much smaller razor to Canada with an email worded exactly the same and asking if he'd consider shipping via airmail letter post. The razor has a starting price of $20.00 and i don't think it will go for much higher than that, but this time, he quotes me $12.00 for shipping! and i think to myself: "you can stick that razor up your !"
Most US sellers have quoted me below $8.00, most have been well below that, like altima55 who will ship to me for $5.00
Heck i can get razors shipped overseas for as little as $6.00
Talk about gouging on shipping
When i told him what i thought, all he said was "dont ask the same question dont bid" (thats copy/pasted from his email)
and so begins my boycott of tommyrazor. I won't even CONSIDER buying anything from this seller! it infuriates me!
For comparisons sake, i'm looking at buying a brush, brush stand and 150g tub of shave cream from another US seller which will cost me $6.75 to shipLast edited by edk442; 04-10-2007 at 04:01 PM.

Consider the starting price $ 32.- minus the real cost of shipping. There's a whole thread on SRP devoted to extra charges for handling.
Personally I don't mind higher costs of handling, I always take 'm into account when bidding and look at them as (part of) the starting price/reserve you name it.

I've seen the seller in question. I've looked at his items and asked questions. Personally I think that all his stuff is overpriced, he is poor at appraising his items, and that he's quite unhelpful.
I've on several occasions asked about an item and his reply was "look at the pictures, they are in perfect condition"
I've decided not to buy from him

He has been around for a long time, just been off of E bay for awhile. He has a lot of interesting razors. Some sellers/collectors are not interested in selling razors on the cheap.Check his feedback. Best regards Gary

Thanked: 79I've bought from him,
didn't get a bargain, however it was one of those "HAVE to get one of those" kind of things.
He has some neat offerings, but if you want to get anything for a cheap price, I'd look elsewhere. Anything he has listed you will pay for...

Thanked: 9so are his descriptions correct? when he says sth is New, Mint, etc.
I was having some doubts.
He says he sells at cost - maybe he's just paying too much for them himself.
And $12 to Canada - maybe he's insuring them (when I was shipping to Canada it was something like this for insured mail)
Cheers
Ivo

Thanked: 17Why?
I have very little experience selling razors on eBay but I've sold many pipes there. I belong to a pipe board where I sometimes get criticized for charging $15.00 for S&H via UPS insured. I don't know who has shipped via UPS recently but that is what it costs. Sometimes more than what I charge. USPS is a pain because I can't use my Mail Store since only the Post Office can insure packages. The most expensive pipe I've sold went for $3,300.00, a beautiful sandblasted and unsmoked Bo Nordh. What if that pipe didn't get to the buyer? Well. eBay will come after me after the buyer opens a dispute and then they will place a hold on my PayPal account until they resolve the dispute. And the dispute will be resolved in the buyer's favor, for sure. Has anyone here tried to collect insurance money from the Post Office, you need documentation back to the beginning of time! UPS is expensive but they pay, very few questions asked. Think about it, what's 5 bucks more to insure the safety of your purchase. And as Kees says, take it into consideration when you bid. One always has the option of not bidding!

I just got a mappin & webb ivory handled 4 razor set from tommyrazor!!! I wouldn't call it cheap but it is exactly what he described and he charged me 12 dollars for shipping. I received them today , and inside the package was a note that said shipping was less than he charged . He stapled 6 dollars to the note. Everytime I have done business with tommyrazor it's left my wallet a little lighter but I've never been dissatisfied!!

Thanked: 79I think my previous description was a bit negative.
I'm quite happy with the razor I bought from seller Tommyrazor, and at least as it applies to my purchase, his descriptions are accurate. Did I get the razor for a steal? no-but I did get a fair price, and that is all one can ask.
