Thanked: 11Carigslist Find
Hi all. I just recently found this posting in my area. Did some looking on the forums, and it looks to indeed be an antique, most certainly German manufacture. Take a look and tell me what you think!

Thanked: 4826Well first off I cannot talk about the price, forum rules forbid money talk. That razor has some very nice cast scales. It appears to be a store branded razor so we don't know who actually made it, and we will never find that out. It is not exactly in top shape. If you are looking to spend that kind of money you can buy a shave ready new one. You can certainly get a very nice vintage, name brand, shave ready razor out of the classifieds here. There are a lot of options at that price point. There are several vendors here that sell very nice vintage blades at that price point as well. If you want to get a nice razor to shave with it is important to get one that is shave ready.

Thanked: 11Can you tell if the scales are something nice, not plastic or bakelite? I based the German manufacture on the history of the importer branded into the tang. I know that is not a definitive answer though.

Thanked: 4826I would wager that the scales are plastic

Never heard of Townley Metal & Hdw. Co. in Germany, "The Beetle." I'm guessing the scales are celluloid as decorated scales from that period typically were. Like Shaun said, unless you really like that razor, the $ could be better spent on a new or vintage shave ready piece. IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 11I agree with you both on the price perspective. I would try to talk them down, considering the effort it would take to restore it and make it shave it ready, if it could be.

Thanked: 237Can someone clarify for me then, because I read the forum rules and to me it sounded like prices could be talked about in this sub forum...?

I believe the rules are valuations. As in "I found this razor in my attic. What is it worth?". I could be mistaken, but that is the spirit of the rule to me. I don't think this is a good deal. I will say I bought a paired set of Dovo En Vogue 105 off CL for a steal though! This seems like some guy equating age to value. I would say no deal! What exactly are you looking for in a razor? The Classifieds are a way better bet my man or if you are bent on a restore hit the Bay! For that price you can get a sweet TI from SRD even!
Razor rich, but money poor. I should have diversified into Eschers!
