Thanked: 346So buy a scruffy one, sand it down, and send it to Robert Willams (aka papabull) for a sportin' set of Oryx scales. I've got two Friodurs wearing some of his oryx scales, and a W&B 8/8 "Celebrated for Barber's Use" wearing a set of his giraffe bone scales.

Thanked: 5i've been looking for scruffy ones for awhile but usually the ones with a shape i like have seen serious loving with the hone, or are so rusted they'd probably disintegrate during cleaning. i'm pretty picky about what i look for in a wade and butcher...nice even shape (ie it can't be 5/8 at the heel, 6/8 in the middle and 7/8 at the toe) or something like that gotta be even the whole way, nice smooth curved smiling razor, light hone wear (less is obviously better but butchers tend to get used) don't ask me why but i don't like it when they say "Manafactured by"
I like it when it simply says:
Wade and Butcher
Sheffield England (or just Sheffield)
B >>>-----> +
i like a clean, etch free blade but if it's gonna have etching it's gotta be like the celebrated razors (preferably without saying FOR BARBER'S USE...again don't ask me why) otherwise i'd probably sand it off
and i'd actually prefer it to be somewhere in the range of 6/8 to 7/8 (8/8 and bigger is just too big for me)
and now i'm getting into serious personal preference but oryx couldn't float my boat if it we're made of styrofoam
but thats just me...i think i've only seen maybe 2 razors that met all these requirements on ebay. the first time i saw one was maybe the first wade and butcher i'd ever seen and gave me the impression they weren't all that hard to come by so i let it slip, the second went above my budget. so here i am still waiting...
so maybe i should say that even if i had the money, i still might not buy this razor...but it sure is pretty!

That razor looks familiar,I think it may be one Robert did some time ago.I have quite a few of those blades in new condition,that have never been on a hone.they still have nice factory finish,and I woundnt sell them for that price.Many years ago(1965) There was a guy in South Miami (the company was OK Feed store ),that sold those big Wade and Butchers for $2.00 ,he also sold Double Ducks,Goldenedge for 6.50 I bought a lot of razors from him back then,and still have most of them,with the sales reciepts.also a DD goldenedge 8/8,(I dont have the reciept for it ,but it was not more than 10.00) This guy also had a very important collection of Japanese swords,and got me started on collecting them in the 60's .I bought many razors ,and some swords from him through 1980 when he died ,most of his swords went back to Japan.

If money were no object, I'd hire a barber to do it for me every morning!
