I was following this one, as I'm sure a lot of SRP folks were. It is quite unusual to see a Gilchrist of this size, so it was a very interesting razor, but I was blown away by the final price. Of note is that there were three unique bidders above the $400 mark... a lot of people REALLY wanted this one.

as of around noon yesterday it was under a hundred. I didn't get to watch the last few minutes but I would have expected it to jump by leaps and bounds in those last seconds. I try to pay attention because you never know when everyone is going to be sleeping. Clearly there was nobody sleeping on this one.
An inch and an eighth is a healthy size ......... regrind ?

If that were dead stock and clean it would have went for a hell of a lot more. Desirable maker.
Interesting, lots of money for a beat up blade with undesirable scales. The one pictured below sold for a BIN for 3 bills all original,might not be as big but close but in much better condition, wonder how much it would go for if the seller let it ride over going with BIN.

Reinstatement of the black horn is simple enough. I've found Sheffield regrinds live and die on how neatly they were done in the stabilizer area and how warped the blade may have been to start. I have had a harder time honing reground sheffields at times than I ever have a wedge.
