Gilchrist to the stratosphere
I was following this one, as I'm sure a lot of SRP folks were. It is quite unusual to see a Gilchrist of this size, so it was a very interesting razor, but I was blown away by the final price. Of note is that there were three unique bidders above the $400 mark... a lot of people REALLY wanted this one.

Thanked: 4827as of around noon yesterday it was under a hundred. I didn't get to watch the last few minutes but I would have expected it to jump by leaps and bounds in those last seconds. I try to pay attention because you never know when everyone is going to be sleeping. Clearly there was nobody sleeping on this one.

Funny that, if I knew it was a regrind I wouldn't want it at all, let alone north of five hundred smackers. The seller didn't have photos that could enlarge, and his description was minimal to say the least. Goes to show, if you've got the right item, no telling what it will bring.

Thanked: 4827There are a few categories of razors that I see very little of, but they had to be around. Heavy grind American, French and German razors I do not see very often, especially not in large widths. They are our there and pop up here and there. This is an example of one, I am not really surprised that it went past my budget, but a little surprised out how far out of my budget it went.

Sufferin' Succotash !! I just took another look at the photos .......... are those the original scales ? I don't think so. Another deal breaker for me ..... certainly at that price.

Thanked: 4249Interesting, lots of money for a beat up blade with undesirable scales. The one pictured below sold for a BIN for 3 bills all original, might not be as big but close but in much better condition, wonder how much it would go for if the seller let it ride over going with BIN.
