You can still leave negative feedback after you have contacted the seller and resolved the problem, if you want.
The point is that leaving feedback doesn't solve your current issue, so it makes sense to work on that first and then your feedback can reflect the whole transaction, not just the initial part. Or just wait the week if you don't want to bother further.

In any case the way I've always seen is - this is part of the gambling on ebay - lower costs come with higher risks. Seeing what you're buying in person, first, means that you have to go to a store which takes a lot more time than placing a bit from a computer at home and physical stores tend to have higher operational costs than people placing ads from their home.
Of course, bidding on razors with high quality photographs lowers the risk but that also means higher prices because they are more attractive.

We have no info as to the seller's claims, but you must realize that some sell razors and assume they are in good condition, knowing nothing of razors. Most razors sold are, in fact, unusable and need work. Before leaving negative feedback, you might want to assume any liability on your side in this as you bought it based on your knowledge and what you saw. Since bashing a seller with good feedback would seem unnecessary, contact him about sending it back for a refund. If he refunds, you, he deserves good feedback, not bad. Chalk it up to experience. i just recently started selling on the bay to support more buying off the bay ..lol.. i try to picture every flaw and i mention every mark/ding/dent that i can see , i also know that by turning a razor one way or the other i can hide a blemish but i dont and save myself the hassle in the long run even though my razors may sell at a lower price, i feel much better and usually get messages saying your razors were better then described . !! like Sharpton said most dont know enough about straight razors to give a fair condition so if im looking and i come across a questionable image i check to see if they offer returns , if so the risk can be worth the reward, but i dont take advantage of it unless its a major issue and far from what they described ... on one item i missed a chip while bidding from my phone and seller said edge was in great condition !! razor came and there sure enough was a chip !! i sent a message and seller took it right back with no issue although he offered no returns and there was no further ?'s asked ..next time it was listed it mentioned the chip , so truly i think the seller assumed for its age it was in good condition and prob never thought of it as being used but more of a antique for the wall ..

The OP has left out a lot of pertinent info.

Did the auction offer returns if not satisfied? or was it a non refundable. Did they state in the description no chips cracks or breaks? or was it a bare description leaving it up to the buyer to ask questions or for more pictures?

It is rare that a razor is COMPLETELY unusable. But often enough they need some work before they can be shaved with.
To me, the word unusable implies its trashed and needs to be used for nothing more than spreading peanutbutter on my sandwiches.
Don't be hasty with the negative feedbacks. I reserve those for guys who sell things they don't even have, or are misrepresented. Like a 10 dollar shipping charge for an item that comes in a first class envelope with the shipping of 1.49 printed right on it.

I just got through sending one back to a seller . The razor was listed as a wade and butcher. when I got it the name had been ground off. I do believe the seller was told what it was and really didn't know the difference. The seller wouldn't refund so I went to pay pal. At first they wouldn't refund but after explaining in detail the next day I was given a complete refund. Pay Pal did right by me.

Paypal will shift their weight 99/1 to any buyer who has a case. For the same reason that you have to wait to leave negative feedback. Ebay and paypal make their decisions with two things in mind:
    1) spring the risk onto the buyers and sellers
    2) minimize anything that may decrease sales of items

That's my opinion, of course. Backed up by everything they do.
    * limiting monetary removal from paypal for certain members
    * adding "offer" buttons to sellers on every piece of correspondence, trying to encourage a sale
    * making it harder to add negative feedback to sellers, and impossible to do it to buyers
    * allowing any type of listing that you could possibly think of in terms of dollars, no matter how ridiculous

I'd return it to the seller if they say they won't take it back, but i'd first file a dispute if they don't respond timely. I've not had a seller who ripped me off and who got to keep the money. 75% of the time, the seller has changed their mind and decided to do right once a dispute was filed, and the one time they didn't, I elevated it to a claim and paypal took their money immediately and sent it back to me (that was on a non-shipment issue where the seller kept saying that he was ready to ship very soon...for weeks).

I've never had an issue as a seller. The rare times I suspect a problem buyer (and I've only done that twice), I put them on my banned buyers list. In both cases, it was people with little feedback looking for something for far less than market, and suggesting I could be untrustworthy as a seller so they wanted me to do something outside of the rules to give them a better deal. You can't afford to let people like that bid, all they have to do is be two-faced and go to paypal.
