Thanked: 4249These Wade and Butchers, with the stamp "Blank for Concaving" are not that rare at all. Geo Wostenholm made some as well http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...abay-fake.html. My guess is that these were sold as is to street grinders and third partys to finish.
This particular razor grinding doesn't look like it was done professionally at all, and the scales don't match the time period, or the blade at all. The only thing its got going is it large size.
Somewhat sad that someone will pay that much for a razor that probably has some geometry problems.....Last edited by Martin103; 04-04-2015 at 04:23 PM.

My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

Well, the seller could've lowered the reserve by those $5 and make the top bidder a winning bidder with a commitment to complete the sale. It'd be probably worth the $5 to avoid another ebay listing fee if he has to repost it. With only two bidders willing to go above $350 I wouldn't be too confident in the ability of that razor to fetch $700.
But may be the top bidder (or the second highest) hasn't changed his mind and will indeed be willing to take it for the max bid and everybody lives happily ever after
Or they can even arrange outside-of-ebay sale and cheat ebay out of their fee for connecting them

The last 2 bids were 685 and 695 it did not sell because the guy had a reserve on it (stupid).

Thanked: 169He should have not messed with that blade himself and sprung on a real pro who preferably makes blades as well to sort out the whole packaging and setup. It's a good example of bad work lowering appeal. If that blank is still as big as was said in this thread, I maintain that the price was ok. They aren't exactly as common as aspirins...

Are you saying you would be willing to pay $700-$1000 for the blank in its as found state but his work has decreased its value to you?
There are plenty of razors that are 'rare' meaning that you'll find fewer of them than these blanks, but as we all know that's not enough to make them particularly desirable.

Thanked: 169Was that the first listing cycle for that blade? I find for high cost items, usually, they need to go through a few turns just so ppl have a chance to mobilize funds. Even really hot de stuff needs a 2nd 10 day shot sometimes.

Thanked: 169If it were in its raw state and he just put it on a paper scale for dimensions I personally would be more apt to buy it at $700 than this state. You are looking at this a bit wrong. If someone put a 10/8 butcher up fully ground and made for barbers use, it would romp past $1000. If someone wants a huge hunk of w&b steel and doesn't want any part of that level of cash, there you go. Those ppl are out there too. I've had some pretty silly offers for massive sheffields come my way on forums even though they weren't for sale....
