Default Any thoughts on this Mastro Livi

Mastro Livi Straight 7 8 Damascus Blade in Stag Horn | eBay

The second listing that I have seen on this razor. The BIN was reduced on the re-listing. For some reason it just doesn't seem like I care to engage, but I can't really identify it.

I can only tell you it was in our classified section until a few days ago.

It seems really inexpensive for a livi. I would ask questions. Livi qc can be all over the place.

It looks like a great buy, but I haven't heard of 'Camillo' damascus. The only thing that gives me pause, is that the certificate shown is a different razor, made of 'Silvano' damascus. Maybe a simple error in searching through his files.

I think that is his first name. I have no doubt it is the real deal, but you need to ask about the fit and finish. Also, with file work on livis, you need to be careful. I've heard of some putting nice scratches in strops. They are beautiful razors, regardless.

It looks like a genuine Mastro Livi, probably made in 2007-2008. Mastro Livi once used Camillo Silvano carbon damascus steel for his razors. Mastro Livi and Camillo Silvano are best friends and they certainly are two of the very best artisans we have in Italy. I took a couple of pictures of them at Novegro "Culter Expo" (Italy) in 2013 and 2014.

Camillo Silvano is one of the patriarchs in Italy for Damascus making and he virtually taught everyone in Italy how to make Damascus steel. Mastro Livi considers Camillo Silvano to be his master in regard of Damascus steel making. Camillo Silvano is certainly one of the very best and finest artisans we have in Italy. He makes breathtaking knives and swords, his technique is amazing as well as being a remarkable man with a genuine and incredible talent in his art.

Thanks for clearing that up. The 'Camillo' engraving was what I'd not seen before. I had a Livi damascus, since sold, that was engraved 'Silvano' damascus, and if I remember correctly, the certificate was also marked in the same way. Lovely razor, I hope it goes to a good home.

I was thinking less from the perspective of authenticity, and more from the appearance of the blade's condition. Although the photos aren't the best, it seems like the blade has quite a few odd scratches.

I noticed that too. Especially across the belly of the blade. Scratches in the bevel as well.
