What do you think of the size error
I received my JR wedge today.
I bought it because it was listed as being 7/8".
However, it is 1/32" under 7/8.
I don't know if it is reasonable to expect a seller to measure blade widths with a caliper like I do. I also don't want to return it because it really only needs to be polished.
What do you think of such errors?Last edited by Bruno; 05-10-2007 at 07:10 PM. Reason: Typo

Personally I don't think 1/32" is worth giving it a second thought. I'm generally satisfied as long as the stated size is within 1/16" of actual.

Thanked: 1587I'm not sure Bruno. On the one hand, it is annoying when people get it wrong, and there's always the suspicion they've taken you for a ride. But then again, it could just be an honest mistake, or the seller thought blades should be taken to the nearest 8th of an inch...
In any event, 1/32th is not massive. And she's a lovely looking blade. And I'm sure it will be a great shaver if it's anything like my JR wedges. So I'd say congrats on the score

Bruno,
Since this antique blade has some obvious hone wear, I think you can consider this to be a 7/8" nominal size blade. Nominal meaning 'rounded' to the nearest 1/8", since this is the scale most people use. You may measure in 1/64" increments or in mm if you so choose, but it is less common. I wouldn't consider this a slight by the seller.

I don't recall ever seeing anyone on eBay advertise a 27/32 razor (or anything/32, for that matter)- I've always seen razor sizes in 1/8 in increments, both here and on the 'Bay - and, to my way of thinking, 27/32 is a 7/8 razor.....
.....but, I may be wrong.....
.....usually am....

I tried to avoid the obvious, but...
*Holding thumb and forefinger 3" apart*
Isn't this 8"???
LMAO
I think if it's within 1/16" I wouldn't sweat it. J.

Thanked: 9Nah, I wouldn't bother (1/16 - then I'd think about it)
I got one from the same seller which wasn't described too well (I still kept it).
You have it in front of you - but I am a bit surprised that it only needs polishing, seems a bit worse on the photo
Cheers

Well, I really meant a small amount of handsanding.
The blade is not rusty and has no visible pitting so I can probably get away with starting 1000 or 600 grit. If that is the case, it should not take too much time to clean up. say less than 6 hours.
So yes you are right, a dremel and some polishing compound is not going to cut it, but 6 hours is not too bad either.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
